Meet Our Staff

Susie was born and raised in El Paso, Texas. She is a single mother with two sons, ages 26 and 28. For 13 years she worked as a legal secretary – with a Professional Legal Secretary designation – in one of the largest and most respected law firms in El Paso. After leaving the legal field, she opened her own childcare business in 1999, and received her Child Care Administrator certification from the National Child Care Association in 2000. She subsequently opened her second day care in June 2002. Susie eventually consolidated her two day cares in November of 2004, and continues to own and oversee the day-to-day operations of the daycare. In 2006, Susie became a licensed realtor. She has experience in new home and resale home purchases, and has worked with both experienced and first-time home buyers.

Bertha was born and raised in El Paso, Texas, and in 1999 started working at Thomason Hospital (University Medical Center) as a Certified Nursing Assistant. In March of 2000, she began working with Sunflowers Day Care as a full time child care teacher. That same year, Bertha obtained her Child Development Associate certification and became the Assistant Director. In 2005, Ms. Garcia took a position as the lead pre-school teacher at Flying Colors Learning Center. In 2009 she joined Children’s Choice Learning Center as a part time Administrative Assistant while attending Western Technical Institute, and upon graduation in 2010 from WTI, Bertha was licensed by the State of Texas as a Massage Therapist. She became the full time Assistant Director at Children’s Choice Learning Center in January 2010, bringing 11 years of experience and expertise to our organization. She is married and has two children. Bertha has over 165 hours of continuing education in Early Childhood Development, is certified in CPR and Heartsaver First Aid by the American Heart Association, and has specialized safety training in Shaken Baby/SIDS/Brain Development & First Aid. Today Mrs. Garcia serves as our Director.

Letty was born in Juarez, Mexico, subsequently moved to El Paso, Texas and became a U.S. citizen in 2005. She worked at Telemex, the premier telephone company in Juarez as a telephone operator for many years. When Ms. Horton moved to El Paso she was a stay-at-home mother to her two children, and when they were older she began working in the daycare environment. She was a teacher at Kiddos Daycare from 1997 to 2004. In 2005 she began working at Children’s Choice Learning Center. Leticia wears many hats at the daycare; she is a teacher’s assistant, driver and an office administrator. She has been happily married for 33 years, and has two children and a daughter in law. Letty has over 90 hours of continuing education in Early Childhood Development, is certified by the American Heart Association in CPR and Heartsaver First Aid, and has specialized safety training in Shaken Baby/SIDS/Brain Development & First Aid.

Alice is originally from California and began her career in childcare in 2000 with the YWCA as an assistant in the After School Program. She ultimately became Lead Teacher for Infants at the YWCA and worked there until 2008. Alice began working as the Lead Teacher for Toddlers at Children’s Choice Learning Center after leaving the YWCA, and has over 180 hours of continuing education in Early Childhood Development. She is certified by the American Heart Association in CPR and Heartsaver First Aid, and received specialized training in Shaken Baby/SIDS/Brain Development and First Aid.
